Registration rates include educational presentations on Wednesday, June 12th, Thursday June 13th and Friday, June 14th. There is no fee for the GroupoLab pre-symposium event; however, registration for this event is required.

Travel and Accommodations

Lodging: When booking your accommodations, please take into account the public transportation connection to the Somosaguas Campus. The Somosaguas Campus can be reached by Bus A, which you take in front of the Moncloa Metro Station. Moncloa station is also served by Metro Lines 3 and 6.
- Where to Stay: If you plan to take public transportation to/from the Moncloa Metro Station, we recommend staying within walking distance of the Metro Line 3 (yellow) between the Moncloa and Callao stops. This is a vibrant area of the city with restaurants, shopping and historic buildings. There are many hotels in this area. We suggest looking online for a hotel that meets your preferences near the following Metro stops:
We suggest staying near these Line 3 stations. View route on GoogleMaps. As a reminder, the location of the symposium is accessible by Bus A. The pick up for Bus A is at the Moncloa Metro Station (on the yellow, Line 3).
 Fully accessible hotel option (Ilunion Hotels): We have secured a 15% discount for the four Ilunion Hotels in Madrid using the discount code: IASWG24. Their four hotels in Madrid are close to a public transportation option that reach the Somosaguas campus. 2024 Symposium Theme: Groupwork and Social Justice
Groupwork has been instrumental in breaking barriers, bringing together and empowering individuals in the wake of seemingly irreparable circumstances. Building on the legacy of the late Charles Garvin, this year's theme explores the pursuit of social justice in social groupwork to foster a sense of belonging when individuals feel isolated, a sense of safety in uncertain situations, and serve as a means for collective action when people feel powerless.
The IASWG believes in social group work's practical and powerful ways to bring people together – in small or large groups – to make a difference for individuals, local communities, and across the world. Join us in Madrid, Spain, 10 June–14 June 2024, to share your knowledge, innovations, research and experiences, and to feel our sense of local connection and global togetherness.
Student Volunteers
Student volunteers are the heart, hands, and soul of the IASWG symposium. IASWG will select around 30 student volunteers to perform tasks related to registration, hospitality, session oversight, traffic direction, social media, logistics, set-up and tear-down. In exchange for your time and effort, your registration fee will be waived.. In exchange for your time and effort, volunteer's symposium registration fee will be waived.
Requirements:
In order to be considered for a volunteer assignment, applicants MUST:
- Be enrolled in a Community Services, BSW or MSW program or be a Community Services, BSW or MSW recent grad who graduated in either December 2023 or May 2024
- Be a current IASWG student member (can join once your volunteer status as been confirmed)
- Be willing to be an active and engaged volunteer for at least 2 half-day volunteer shifts
- Attend a volunteer orientation session before the symposium
Application:
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Selection: Please note, you must be a member of IASWG to be able to serve as a volunteer for the symposium. Once you are notified about your volunteer application status, we request that you join as a student member and register for the symposium as a volunteer before May 1st, 2024.
